Michael Sears, a former Assistant Inspector General (Senior Executive) at the U.S. Department of Commerce, joined Lynch Consultants to help sustain the firm’s commitment to providing the highest level of service to its Federal clients. Since retiring from Commerce in 2004, Michael has successfully worked with both civilian and defense agencies to improve their financial management, internal controls, compliance with laws and regulations, and operational efficiency.
Since transitioning to the private sector, Michael has applied his senior-level government experience to establish effective partnerships with Federal clients to resolve issues related to the Chief Financial Officers Act, Federal Financial Management Improvement Act, Federal Managers’ Financial Integrity Act, Government Performance and Results Act, Federal Information Security Management Act, Digital Accountability and Transparency Act, and other federal statutes and regulations.
His recent successful engagements have included projects at Veterans Affairs, the Defense Health Program, the Marine Corps, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the State Department.
While an Assistant Inspector General at Commerce, Michael frequently demonstrated his ability to resolve difficult programmatic issues by helping to implement effective solutions, often requiring sensitive discussions with both the executive branch and legislative branch, including the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and Congressional committees. As a result, he received numerous Department-level awards for his managerial and leadership skills, including the Department’s Silver Medal from Secretary Norman Mineta.
Michael received his MA in international business from Johns Hopkins University and his BA from Clemson University.
